Overview
VAG MED9.1 Immobilizer File Utility is a focused offline editor for supported EEPROM reads from Bosch MED9.1 engine controllers used in Volkswagen Group applications. It offers two processing variants and exports a separate result. The interface states that checksum handling is included for the supported operation.
The program does not read the ECU, communicate through OBD or automatically identify the controller.

Confirmed Functions
- Select an EEPROM file read from a supported MED9.1 controller.
- Choose between the application's two immobilizer-processing variants.
- Export the processed result under a separate filename.
- Apply the integrated checksum handling associated with the supported operation.
The two methods indicate different supported layouts or strategies, but the interface does not provide a complete hardware/software compatibility matrix. Use a method only when it is documented for the exact input file.
Controller and Vehicle Scope
Bosch MED9.1 is used in multiple Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Skoda gasoline applications. Immobilizer structures can vary with ECU part number, processor, EEPROM content, software generation and vehicle platform.
The documented scope is supported MED9.1 files, rather than every VAG MED9, MED17 or similarly named controller. Check the ECU label and diagnostic identification before reading. The input must be the appropriate EEPROM data set, not an arbitrary flash or calibration read. Successful file loading does not prove that a processing method matches its internal layout.
Required Tools
- A Windows computer with a compatible .NET environment for the supplied ClickOnce-style deployment package.
- A bench, boot, BDM or EEPROM programmer explicitly supporting the target MED9.1 hardware.
- The correct pinout and a regulated power supply.
- Two matching EEPROM reads and an untouched original backup.
- A hex comparison tool to inspect the output.
- Diagnostic equipment for identification, fault scanning and post-repair adaptation.
Application deployment files and the setup bootstrapper are included. ECU communication drivers and programming hardware are not included. The exact required .NET version is unspecified.
Recommended Workflow
- Verify authorization and record vehicle and ECU identification.
- Read the EEPROM twice in the correct hardware mode and compare the hashes.
- Store the untouched original securely and work on a duplicate.
- Establish which method is appropriate for the exact controller and EEPROM structure.
- Process and export the output without overwriting the original.
- Compare every modified byte range and confirm unchanged file length.
- Program with stable power, then read back and verify the result.
- Complete the documented diagnostic pairing or recovery checks.
Validation and Limitations
Integrated checksum handling applies only to the supported routine and recognized layout. It does not validate the source read, repair flash checksums, correct a mismatched replacement ECU or guarantee compatibility with another module. Do not test the two methods by trial and error on a vehicle.
Where standard immobilizer adaptation is available and appropriate, follow the documented factory procedure. Security-related file changes are intended only for authorized repair, replacement, test-bench or motorsport work permitted in the relevant jurisdiction.
Troubleshooting
File rejected or unsuccessful result: restore the original and verify that the input is EEPROM data, the controller is MED9.1 and the read is complete. Check processor/EEPROM selection, byte order, file length and the selected processing method. Diagnose module communication and synchronization before attempting another change.
For support, provide exact Bosch and VAG part numbers, programmer and mode, EEPROM size, selected method and redacted fault codes. Keep full dumps, VINs and immobilizer secrets private.
Package Notes
The documented archive retains the complete deployment set, including both application revisions, manifests and the setup bootstrapper. Preparation notes report static inspection without executing the software; these are documented package observations, not an independent ECUDB application test.
Use an isolated workshop environment and perform your own local security scan. No malware-free claim is made.
