Overview
Overview
Easy Kill EDC17 is an offline ECU-file editor for selected Bosch diesel and petrol calibration families used in BMW and Volkswagen Group vehicles. It processes an existing tuning file on a Windows PC. It does not connect to a vehicle, identify an ECU through OBD, or read and write control units.
Start-Stop, torque monitoring, maximum speed, rev limiter and DTC operations are separated into tabs, each with its own controller list. Check compatibility for the exact function and software revision. This is a specialist calibration utility: start with a verified original read, work on a duplicate and retain a recovery route through the original reading tool.

What the Program Can Edit
- Start-stop logic: finds a supported switch strategy and applies the predefined change for the selected file profile.
- Torque monitoring: modifies the monitoring-related calibration logic supported by a matching BMW controller profile.
- Maximum speed: applies a controller-specific Vmax change.
- Rev limiter: offers a separate workflow for supported diesel calibration families.
- DTC handling: provides a file-based fault-code operation when the binary structure is recognized.
The application does not supply map definitions or explain every changed byte. Review the original and output with a binary-diff tool before accepting the result.
Controller Coverage Shown by the Application
Controller choices vary between tabs. The documented menu coverage is:
| Function | Controller profiles |
|---|---|
| Start-stop | VAG: EDC17C46, EDC17C64, EDC17CP44. BMW: EDC17C50, EDC17C56. |
| Torque monitoring | BMW: EDC17CP02, EDC17CP09, EDC17CP45, EDC17C41, EDC17C50, EDC17C56. |
| Maximum speed | BMW: EDC17CP02, EDC17CP09, EDC17CP45, EDC17C50 and EDC17C56, including F-series-labelled entries; EDC16C31 and EDC16C35. VAG: EDC17CP14, EDC17CP20, EDC17CP44, EDC16CP34, MED9.1 TFSI and ME7.5. |
| Rev limiter | VAG: EDC15P+ is documented for this build. |
A menu entry does not guarantee support for every software number within that family. Flash layout, calibration revision, partial reads and previous tuning can prevent detection or produce an unsuitable patch.
Required Input and File Preparation
- A complete BIN or calibration-area read accepted by the selected profile.
- Known vehicle model, engine code, ECU family, Bosch hardware number and software number.
- An untouched original and at least one independent backup.
- A checksum-capable editor or programming tool suitable for the exact ECU.
- A verified bench, boot or OBD recovery procedure if programming rejects the modified file.
Do not identify a file by its extension alone. Confirm its byte length and ECU identifiers, and record the original file hash before opening a working copy.
Recommended Editing Workflow
- Read and identify the ECU using the normal workshop tool.
- Keep the original in a read-only case folder and record its SHA-256 hash.
- Select one Easy Kill function and the exact controller family matching the identification data.
- Load a duplicate of the original calibration.
- Apply only the required operation and save with a new filename.
- Compare both binaries and record every changed address range.
- Validate checksums for the exact controller and read method.
- Review the diagnostic and emissions consequences before programming.
- Program with a regulated battery-support supply and an available recovery procedure.
- Scan the vehicle afterwards, complete any required adaptations and check operation in a lawful test environment.
How to Validate the Output
The output must retain the expected length and ECU identity. Check that:
- File length has not changed unexpectedly.
- Changed byte ranges are limited and repeatable for the chosen function.
- Hardware and software identification strings remain intact.
- The writer or a trusted independent checker validates the checksums.
- The programming tool recognizes the same ECU and protocol.
- No unrelated calibration maps or diagnostic tables have changed.
If a successful operation changes a large portion of the file, stop and investigate. Do not program that output until the reason is understood.
System Requirements
- Windows PC supporting 32-bit desktop applications.
- Documented Windows versions: 7, 8.1, 10 and 11. An isolated virtual machine is recommended for legacy workshop utilities.
- .NET Framework desktop runtime and the supplied Firebird client/data-provider library, kept in the application folder.
- At least 2 GB RAM and 100 MB free disk space, plus storage for original, modified and recovery files.
- A dedicated working folder with write permission.
- A separate ECU reading/programming tool. Easy Kill includes and controls no vehicle interface.
The executable and bundled data-provider library are documented as unsigned. The package documentation describes static inspection without execution; this is not a claim of an ECUDB execution test.
Important Limitations
- A listed controller is not proof of support for every software revision.
- Easy Kill is not an ECU identification tool and cannot reliably detect a mislabelled file.
- Checksum correction is not documented as an included workflow step; use the appropriate external validation tool.
- A partial OBD read may omit the region required by the selected operation.
- Existing modifications can disrupt pattern matching or overlap with the requested change.
- DTC editing does not replace diagnosis of wiring, sensors, actuators or mechanical faults.
Legal, Emissions and Safety Notice
Start-stop, speed-limiter, torque-monitoring, rev-limiter and diagnostic changes can affect emissions compliance, type approval, road safety, warranty and insurance. Use only vehicles and files you own or are authorized to service, and only where the intended change is legal. Repair the cause of safety- or emissions-related faults rather than suppressing them.
Package Contents
The documented package contains the Easy Kill executable and its required Firebird data-provider library. Package preparation is described as including a full test and extraction of the encrypted input archive, size and SHA-256 records for both payload files, encrypted final archive headers and an independent extraction check. These are documented preparation details, not independently repeated ECUDB archive or executable tests. The interface screenshots are kept separate from the executable payload.
