VERSION 1.0.0.0

New Genius GenFile Extractor - ECU Calibration File Utility 1.0.0.0

Offline Windows utility for extracting calibration data from compatible New Genius/K-Touch GEN_FILE containers, with a stated 4 MB input limit.

Overview

New Genius GenFile Extractor is a compact offline Windows utility that opens compatible GEN_FILE containers and extracts their calibration payload for inspection or authorized tuning work. It is intended for files from compatible New Genius/K-Touch workflows, where the working data may be wrapped in a container instead of supplied as an editable raw ECU binary.

Select a source file, confirm its displayed path and start extraction. The status panel shows progress or errors. The application explicitly limits input to 4 MB. It does not communicate with a vehicle or replace the New Genius console, an ECU editor or checksum software.

Purpose of the Utility

An ECU reading and programming workflow may involve several file layers:

  • Original data obtained by the programming tool.
  • A tool-specific container used to store or transfer it.
  • The raw calibration or binary data required by an editor.
  • A modified file prepared for writing through the same tool family.

This application handles only extraction from a recognized GEN_FILE. It can help a technician identify and inspect the underlying calibration. It does not make an incompatible slave file editable, remove contractual restrictions, create a valid modified file for every protocol or guarantee that an extracted result can be written back.

New Genius Workflow Context

New Genius is a standalone Dimsport console for serial ECU communication through OBD-II or dedicated diagnostic connectors. The official platform checks file size and checksum consistency before programming, provides protocol-specific recovery procedures where supported, and maintains an evolving application list covering cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and agricultural equipment.

This extractor is a separate third-party desktop utility. It does not supply an official Dimsport license, protocol subscription, master account, slave-to-master conversion, checksum service or technical support. Process only files you are entitled to use.

Input Requirements

  • A local GEN_FILE produced by a compatible New Genius/K-Touch workflow.
  • An input within the application's stated 4 MB maximum.
  • A complete file transferred without truncation or filename damage.
  • Known vehicle and ECU hardware/software identification.
  • Authorization to inspect or modify the calibration.

A filename containing GEN, GEN_FILE or Genius does not prove compatibility. Hardware generations, firmware revisions, master/slave arrangements and clone ecosystems can use different wrappers. Preserve the original and test a working copy.

Basic Extraction Workflow

  1. Copy the original Genius file into a dedicated case folder.
  2. Record its exact byte length and SHA-256 hash.
  3. Keep an immutable backup outside the extraction folder.
  4. Use Open to select the working copy.
  5. Confirm that the displayed path identifies the intended file.
  6. Press Start and wait for the status panel to finish.
  7. Identify the output created in the working directory.
  8. Hash the output and compare its length with the expected ECU memory region.
  9. Inspect the result in a hex viewer before loading it into tuning software.

Run the utility from a disposable, writable local folder. This keeps output separate from the original and makes newly created files easier to identify.

How to Validate the Extracted Result

An extraction-success message alone is insufficient. Before editing, check:

  • File length: matches the expected calibration-only or full-read size for the exact protocol.
  • Content entropy: output is not entirely blank, repeated padding or an obvious copy of the wrapper.
  • Header/footer structure: agrees with a known original for the same ECU family, where lawfully available.
  • Identification strings: part number, software number and calibration ID correspond to the vehicle.
  • Checksum support: establish which tool will validate or correct checksums after editing.
  • Round-trip plan: determine how modified data will return to the programming device before changing it.

Do not force an unexpected-size output into an editor definition or add padding to make it fit. That can conceal a failed extraction.

Vehicle and ECU Compatibility

No public vehicle/ECU application list is documented for the extractor. Support depends on container structure rather than a particular make or controller. The broad OBD and dedicated-connector coverage of the official New Genius platform does not establish universal compatibility for this desktop utility.

For each job, record vehicle, engine, ECU manufacturer/family, hardware number, software number, read protocol, New Genius device mode and original file length. If files from the same protocol behave differently, compare their wrapper structures before drawing conclusions about ECU support.

File Types in the Dimsport Ecosystem

Dimsport workflows use different file extensions for original reads, modified calibrations, recovery data, protocol/support packages and communication logs. An editor may require raw BIN data or a platform-specific original/modified file rather than a GEN container.

Changing an extension changes the filename only. A valid conversion must preserve the payload, required metadata, size and checksum behavior expected by the target tool.

System Requirements

  • Windows PC supporting native 32-bit x86 applications.
  • Windows 7, 8.1, 10 or 11, with WOW64 support on 64-bit systems.
  • 1 GHz processor and 1 GB RAM.
  • At least 100 MB free storage, plus room for original and extracted copies.
  • Write permission in the working directory.
  • A hex viewer and hashing utility for output validation.
  • The appropriate licensed New Genius/Dimsport workflow for later vehicle programming.

Extraction requires neither internet access nor a vehicle connection. The supplied program is documented as a standalone unsigned x86 executable. Use an isolated workshop PC or VM and verify the executable against an established hash reference before launch.

Safe Editing and Write-Back Planning

  1. Preserve the only extracted copy; edit a duplicate.
  2. Establish whether the output is calibration-only or a complete binary.
  3. Use a definition matching the exact software version.
  4. Make and document one controlled change at a time.
  5. Correct checksums using a method proven for that ECU.
  6. Confirm whether the programming platform requires raw, original, modified or wrapped data.
  7. Keep the untouched vehicle read and recovery file available.
  8. Use stable battery support and follow the protocol instructions while writing.

The extractor performs neither checksum correction nor write-back. An editor accepting the output does not establish that the file is ready to flash.

Package Contents

The documented package contains one native Windows x86 GUI executable, without a separate installer or bundled runtime. It is unsigned.

The preparation notes describe a full test and extraction of the encrypted input RAR, recording executable byte length and hash before repacking, and static inspection without launching the program. The final archive is described as using encrypted headers and undergoing an independent archive test after creation. These are documented preparation details, not independently repeated ECUDB archive or execution tests.

Limitations and Troubleshooting

  • Open accepts a file but Start fails: confirm container compatibility and compliance with the displayed 4 MB limit.
  • No output appears: use a writable local directory, check the status panel and inspect file timestamps.
  • Unexpected output length: do not resize it. Compare the container and protocol with a known-good job.
  • An editor cannot identify the result: establish whether it contains calibration data, a partial region or another wrapper.
  • New Genius rejects the modified file: the official workflow may require another container, master-account processing or checksum/signature handling. Return to that documented workflow.
  • Security software blocks the application: keep it quarantined, verify its expected hash and obtain an independent scan before deciding to run it.
  • Crash with a large input: the interface specifies a maximum of 4 MB. Use the correct input or a documented tool supporting the larger read.

Important Legal and Operational Note

Use only files you own or are authorized to service. Do not evade a tuning provider's master/slave agreement, licensing controls or intellectual-property restrictions. Follow the documented official route for the particular New Genius device and account.
